Lisbon Charter endorsed at the Ministerial Conference of the 7th World Water Forum

The ministerial representatives confirmed the role of  the Lisbon Charter as an important document in the area of public policy and regulation.
Portugal was represented at the ministerial meeting by the Secretary of State for Environment, Paulo Lemos, and the President of ERSAR and member of the board of PWP, Jaime Melo Baptista.
One of the most relevant documents discussed in this meeting was the Lisbon Charter for Good Practices in Public Policy and Regulation of Water Supply Services and Wastewater Sanitation recently adopted by the International Water Association, as proposed by the ERSAR. The ministerial representatives recognized the important role of this document in the framework of public policy and regulation, and this aspect reflected in the Ministerial Declaration resulting from the Forum.
The Lisbon Charter was an important result of the discussions during the 1st International  Water Services Regulatory Forum, jointly organized by the International Water Association (IWA) and the Water and Waste Regulator Authority for Water and Waste Services (ERSAR) during the World Water Congress held in Lisbon in September 2014 which brought together 250 participants and 100 regulators of water services and authorities relating to public health and the environment to discuss the role of regulation, its current status and future trends in the provision of water services.
