The High level meeting of China-Europe Water Platform (CEWP) 2019 took place on 8th November, in Guimarães, and had over 240 participants from Europe and China.
It was an important moment where determination to cooperate on water challenges and on the achievement of Sustainable Develop ment Goal 6. This main goals were expressed in the Guimarães declaration, signed by seven countries: Portugal, China, Malta, Finland, Sweden, Italy and France. Here you can access the Guimarães Declaration.
It was also the moment where Finland congratulated Portugal for assuming the European secretariat of CEWP in 2020.
In the two days previous to the high level meeting took place a circular economy workshop and a business forum.
From the circular economy workshop we highlight the presentation of the Secretary of Sate of the Environment of Portugal, Inês Costa, that referred that we have a consumption issue and we should integrate ecosystem thinking into political thinking to solve it.
We also highlight the intervention from Mr. Zhou Zheyu, Deputy Division Director from National Office of Water Conservation, identifying the issues covered by the National Water Conservation Action in china:
1) Control of total water resource consumption and intensity
2) Agricultural water conservation
3) Industrial water conservation and emission reduction
4) Water conservation and loss reduction in cities
5) Water saving and broadening sources in key areas
6) Leading of scientific and technological innovation
From the business forum we highlight some pratical tips to do business in China:
- Face to face meetings
- Use of “We chat” for communications
- Google translator in the mobile
- Study the chinese culture
