Jaime Melo Baptista elected President of the Strategic Council of Portuguese Water Partnership.

The Engineer Jaime Melo Baptista was elected President of the Strategic Council of the Portuguese Water Partnership. The election took place during the Extraordinary General Assembly of the PWP.

Jaime Melo Baptista began work at the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC), where he held important part of his career (1977-2003), reaching the highest level (Researcher-Coordinator). Conducted numerous research projects, particularly in the areas of mathematical modeling, rehabilitation, evaluation of performance and quality improvement of water distribution systems.
He was President of the International Water Distribution Division Association (IWA) from 1994 to 1998 and Secretary respective Technical National Committee from 1992 to 1999 and is currently a member of this association board of directors.
He was President of Basic Sanitation in Portuguese Standards Commission from 1990 to 1994. Between 2003 and 2015, he was President of the Regulatory Authority for Water and Waste Services.
He was honored in 2012 with the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Water Management and Science by the International Water Association (IWA). He was coordinator of the theme Human Right to Water and Sanitation in the 6th World Water Forum in 2012, and President of the Organizing Comittee of the World Water Congress 2014 and leader of the IWA-Lisbon Congress Charter Commission on Public Policy and Regulation of Water Services. Currently he is Coordinator Researcher at LNEC and advises international organizations on governance matters and regulation of urban water services.
